Diogenite meteorites originated billions of years ago as a result of geological processes deep within asteroid Vesta. Vesta is among the largest bodies in our asteroid belt and a focal point of NASA's successful DAWN mission. Massive impacts on Vesta ejected these stones, dispersing them throughout our solar system. NWA 7831, discovered in Morocco in 2013, exemplifies these rocks. Typically delicate and brittle, this meteorite tends to fragment easily. When sliced and polished, it reveals exquisite translucent green orthopyroxene crystals.
About Stony Meteorites:
Stony meteorites are the most common meteorites, making up the majority of the meteorites discovered here on Earth. They are divided into two groups: chondrites, which are some of the oldest primitive material in our entire solar system originating from large asteroids, and achondrites, which include meteorites that derived from our moon and Mars.
*Note - Lunar and Martian-originated meteorites will always be indicated as such on the listing. Any other meteorite listed will have originated from an asteroid.
