You are viewing a fragment of the Zhob meteorite, an ordinary (H3-4) chondrite, descended near Baluchistan, Pakistan, on the evening of January 9, 2020. Reports from the Meteoritical Bulletin describe a luminous fireball and sonic booms witnessed in northern Baluchistan. Around 6:30 pm local time, a stone pierced through a house in a village in the Mando Khel tribal area, approximately 12 km northeast of Zhob, Zhob District, Baluchistan. Goat herders discovered the largest stone shortly after the fall, followed by two more stones in the same vicinity.

About Stony Meteorites:

Stony meteorites are the most common meteorites, making up the majority of the meteorites discovered here on Earth.  They are divided into two groups: chondrites, which are some of the oldest primitive material in our entire solar system originating from large asteroids, and achondrites, which include meteorites that derived from our moon and Mars.

*Note - Lunar and Martian-originated meteorites will always be indicated as such on the listing. Any other meteorite listed will have originated from an asteroid.
